This course covers fundamental processes of cells and organisms, cell structure, genetics, evolution, classification, diversity, and interaction of organisms at the molecular, cell, organism, ecosystem, and biosphere level. 

The purpose of this course is to give students a chance to learn enough about biology so that they can begin to appreciate the complexity of the natural world, the basic unity of all life, and the kinds of approaches that have been used to bring us to our present state of understanding.  Students should also come to recognize the increasing rate of development of new knowledge in science, the reasons for this development, and the implications of this new knowledge.
